Budgam: Two vital roads in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, Khangripora–Tosamaidan and Rawatpora–Khag, are in an alarming state of disrepair, causing daily hardship for locals, students, and travelers. Despite their importance for tourism, education, and sports, residents say no serious action has been taken to restore them.

The Khangripora–Tosamaidan Road, a crucial route connecting over 20 villages to the scenic tourist spot Tosamaidan, is riddled with potholes and uneven stretches. “Children are late to college, vehicles get damaged, and travel has become risky. The administration is silent,” locals complained.

Equally neglected is the Rawatpora–Khag Road, which serves areas home to many national-level sportspersons. “Talented youth can’t access training facilities due to the road’s condition. Even basic travel is a struggle,” said a resident.

“We feel abandoned by past and present governments,” said Muzafar Ahmad, a local resident.

Locals are demanding immediate inspection, urgent repairs, and inclusion of both roads in the district’s development plan. If ignored further, they warn of protests and escalation to higher authorities. [KNT]
