Srinagar: Umar Masoodi, a young lawyer from Kashmir, has earned a coveted spot in the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) Intensive Course in Human Rights at the University of Oslo, set for September 1–5, 2025. Selected from over 4,700 global applicants, Masoodi is among a distinguished cohort and will receive a full stipend covering travel, accommodation, meals, and a NOK 3,500 allowance.

Currently a Research Assistant at the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Masoodi’s legal expertise, academic background, and advocacy work made him a standout candidate for the highly competitive program. The NCHR course, funded by NORAD, offers rigorous training in international human rights law, enforcement, and global challenges, fostering collaboration among legal professionals, public officials, and civil society actors worldwide.

Masoodi’s selection adds to his growing international accolades. In 2024, he completed advanced training in business and human rights at the Lucerne Academy in Switzerland. Earlier this year, he was selected for the beVisioneers Fellowship, supported by Mercedes-Benz, and participated in the European Youth Event (EYE2025) at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

“I’m deeply honored to join this global platform and collaborate with peers and experts,” Masoodi said. His participation underscores the rising presence of young Kashmiri professionals in global academic and policy arenas.
