Kathua: Train services along the crucial Jammu-Pathankot railway corridor were severely disrupted on Thursday after two bogies of a goods train derailed in the Lakhanpur area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district due to flooding on the tracks.

According to railway officials, the incident occurred while the train was en route from Jammu to Punjab. The derailed bogies veered off the track as a result of waterlogging caused by incessant rainfall in the region.

Fortunately, no loss of life or injuries were reported. The derailment, however, led to a temporary suspension of train movement on the affected stretch, causing inconvenience to commuters and impacting freight logistics.

“Due to heavy rains, water accumulated on the tracks in Lakhanpur, which led to the derailment of two bogies of a goods train. Restoration work has already been initiated, and efforts are underway to resume train operations as soon as possible,” said a senior railway official.

Railway engineers and maintenance staff have been deployed at the site to assess the damage and ensure the safe reinstallation of the derailed wagons. Trains scheduled to pass through the section have either been delayed or diverted.

Railway authorities have urged passengers to stay updated through official bulletins regarding the status of train services on the Jammu-Pathankot route. [KNT]
