Sopore: In a major operation, Sopore Police on Wednesday launched an extensive crackdown against the banned organisation Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), conducting simultaneous raids at more than 25 locations across Sopore, Zaingeer, and Rafiabad areas.

Officials said the searches were carried out with the assistance of other security agencies, following credible intelligence inputs suggesting attempts by JeI-linked individuals to revive their activities under new fronts. The action, they said, forms part of the district-wide counter-militancy and anti-separatist campaign aimed at dismantling the underlying support structures.

During the operations, police recovered a large quantity of incriminating material, including documents, digital gadgets, and printed content associated with the banned outfit. The seized items have been sent for detailed examination. Several individuals have also been questioned to verify their potential involvement in unlawful activities.

Sources said the ongoing operations are preventive and intelligence-based, forming a part of Sopore Police’s sustained efforts to disrupt the ideological and logistical networks of banned organisations.

Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region, asserting that no individual or group would be allowed to disturb the security environment or exploit locals for anti-national activities. [KNT]
